Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

In order to submit a paper to African Journal of Business & Development Studies, the authors should first read the following guidelines:

Submission Preparation Checklist

In compliance with the submission requirements, authors are expected to check  their article submission against the following specifications:

1.  The manuscript should not been submitted to any another journal for publication.

2.  Manuscript submissions should be in Microsoft Word format.

3.  In case of URLs use for the references, the dates of retrieval should be provided.

4.  The manuscript should be prepared in Times New Roman font type,  single-spaced; using a font size 12;  use italics, instead of underlining ; and figures, and tables should be placed within the text but not in appendices.

5.  The text should follow the format and APA referencing style as recommended in the submission guidelines.

Manuscripts may be rejected if they do not meet the required standards.

Submission Process

Publishing a research article in the African Journal of Business & Development Studies shall be done online once an author has registered and logged in successfully.

Manuscript Preparation

The manuscript should be between 3000 and 5000 words. The journal may consider acceptance of shorter or longer manuscripts, but only if the content is of high value. All  submission manuscripts should entail the following sections:

1.       Article/Manuscript tittle

2.       Authors’ list with  their institutional affiliations, as well as their  email addresses

3.       A brief abstract

4.       Background information or study introduction, statement of the problem, study objectives/questions/hypothesis.

5.       Main body [ theoretical and empirical literature, conceptual framework]

6.       Study results and discussion

7.       Study /article conclusions and recommendations

8.       May include acknowledgments 

9.       A list of references using American Psychological Association  (APA) style of referencing

 

Article Title – The article title should be concise and clear. All titles should be written in title case format.

Author List, with Institutional affiliations and Email addresses –Full names and affiliations of all the authors should be clearly provided. Affiliation information should entail university, school, or organization, and country. The corresponding author and their email address needs to be specified.

Article Abstract – This should be concise introduction of the manuscript, not more than 250-300 words. Citations of sources of information should not be included in the abstract.

Keywords – These should be Between three (3)  and five (5) words or phrases which must be separated by commas.

Introduction /Background– This section provides a brief context for the manuscript. It is necessary to use clear and non-technical language in this section since some readers may not be experts in your discipline of research.

Main Manuscript body – This section should include the key ideas, study results and critical discussions.

Conclusions – A brief section that puts together the research findings and generalize their application, discuss convergent and divergent data, and finally make recommendations for further research. A good conclusion should wrap up the paper in a way to satisfy the purpose and objectives of the research.

Acknowledgments – This is an optional section where authors may choose to include any acknowledgements of people or organizations that may have made significant support to the study or project. This journal recommends that an Acknowledgement section should not exceed one hundred (100) words.

 Word Processing Formats

Manuscript submissions to the AJBDS should be in Microsoft Word format; in either Microsoft Word versions 2007/2010 or 2016/2020.

Publication Format

The published journal article will be available online in the in the African Journal of Business & Development Studies in PDF and HTML formats.

The publication process will entail the following steps:

  • Submission of manuscript
  • Review of the manuscript
  • Feedback - Acceptance/Revision/Rejection of maniscritp
  • Publication of Article

The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.

Correspondence

All correspondence should be addressed to the Editor in Chief through the email address AJBDSresearchjournal@usiu.ac.ke The Editor in Chief may designate a different person for purposes of correspondence.

Publication Ethics

AJBDS is committed to upholding the highest standards of ethics in publication, and in its conduct generally.  In this regard, it is expected that all authors, editors, reviewers, and other players will uphold the highest standards of ethics.  In particular, authors are expected to only submit work that they have authored and enjoy intellectual property rights to.  Where work has been authored by more than one author, the corresponding author is expected to seek and receive the express permission of the others before submitting. 

The journal reserves the right to verify originality, and to raise any queries.  In addition, the journal reserves the right to reject any work on grounds of failing to meet the ethical standards applicable to scholarly work, including retracting published work and issuing corrective communication where necessary.

Acknowledgements

AJBDS will accept only work from authors.  Authors will be required to sign a declaration of originality as a precondition for acceptance and publication.  While it may take steps to ascertain authorship as far as it is practicable, the journal does not accept liability for any claims regarding work submitted to it and published though its outlets both print and online.

While co-authorship is allowed, and the authors should ensure that all the other authors are acknowledged and listed appropriately. Whenever there is change of authorship, the corresponding author should bring this to the attention of the Editor in Chief and the prescribed form completed.

People and institutions that have made contributions or supported the work, should be acknowledged appropriately.  It is the responsibility of the authors to acknowledge contributors appropriately.

Submission of Manuscripts

Manuscripts shall be submitted to the Editor in Chief through provided channels.  All manuscripts must be submitted in softcopy prepared as per the editorial guidelines, unless otherwise permitted by the Editor in Chief.

AJBDS respects the privacy of all the users of the journal.  Wherever personal data is collected in the course of a user’s interaction with the journal, such data shall be used strictly for purposes of successful publication and dissemination of the journal and not for any other purposes. AJBDS shall not share private data with any parties except for purposes of publication.
